Grave Peril - Jim Butcher Review

Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, Book 3)Grave Peril by Jim Butcher

  • Hardcover: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Roc Hardcover; First Ediition/First Printing edition (November 4, 2008)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0451462343

Blurb: Chicago wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden confronts his latest and most dangerous challenge in the person of a ghost of an evil wizard who possesses the power to invade people's nightmares and uses other ghosts to wreak havoc on the living.

My Thoughts: Jim Butcher has to be one of my favorite authors...I love the sarcasim, wit and snarkyness of Harry, he has an answer for everything even if he should be keeping his mouth shut. This book had me sitting on the edge of my chair trying to figure out what was going on. I really didn't expect what happened with Susan but we will see where that finally ends up.  Bob as always is teriffic!  I give this book 5 stars and can't wait to dig into the next

Gone - Lisa McMann Review

Gone (Wake Series, Book 3) (Wake Trilogy)Gone By Lisa McMann

  • Hardcover: 224 pages
  • Publisher: Simon Pulse; 1 edition (February 9, 2010)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1416979182

Blurb: Things should be great for Janie--she has graduated from high school and is spending her summer with Cabel, the guy she's totally in love with. But deep down she's panicking about how she's going to survive her future when getting sucked into other people's dreams is really starting to take its toll. Things get even more complicated when she meets her father for the very first time--and he's in a coma. As Janie uncovers his secret past, she begins to realize that the choice thought she had has more dire consequences than she ever imagined.

My Thoughts:  I read the first 2 books in this series last year and spent a long time waiting for this book to come out and was not disappointed. I admire Janie and the choices she has made through not only this book but this whole series.  I really like the way this series ended and have to admit that towards the end I was worried how Janie was going to decide to live her life...I knew how I wanted it to end but was afraid it might go some other way.  I hope that somewhere along the line everyone gets a chance to pick up this book/series and give it a try I doubt you will be disappointed.

My Soul to Keep - Rachel Vincent Review

My Soul to Keep (Soul Screamers, Book 3)My Soul To Keep by Rachel Vincent

  • Paperback: 304 pages
  • Publisher: Harlequin; Original edition (June 1, 2010)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0373210051

My Thoughts: I was fortunate enough to get a review copy of this book and I am so glad that I did. I was iffy on this series at the start but I pressed on and as I went on I became hooked on this world and these characters. I have to say I found myself upset by some of the choices made by some of my favorite characters in this book, but in the end I was impressed with Kaylee and how she managed to push through everything.  This is a series that I think everyone could enjoy it is different from most traditional Young Adult fiction and has a great cast of very likeable characters. I really think everyone should give this series and try!!

My Soul To Save - Rachel Vincent Review

My Soul to Save (Harlequin Teen)My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent

  • Blurb:
When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.
So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul.
The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can't possibly understand.
Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk….

My Thoughts: I loved this book.  I couldn't get enough of it and was upset that it was so short. Kaylee is one of those characters that you just can't help but fall in love with.  I enjoy her relationships with Nash and Tod. I don't really have too much to say about this book other than it was great and everyone should give this series a try!

Iron Daughter - Julie Kagawa Review

Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

  • Paperback: 368 pages
  • Publisher: Harlequin; Original edition (August 1, 2010)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0373210132

My Thoughts: I don't have the words to accurately describe how this book has me feeling. I loved every second I spent reading this book...I have to say Meghan is one of my favorite female leads in YA fiction. She isn't "the perfect character" which makes her more loveable in my opinion. I really loved watching her relationships with the secondary characters change and grow through this book.  I feel like I watched Meghan and company grow before my eyes. This book had a great plot and it just seemed to flow from one scene to the next.  I can't wait until Iron Queen is out I really need to see how this is going to end!!

The Mage in Black - Jaye Wells Review

The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane)The Mage in Black by Jaye Wells

  • Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Orbit; 1 edition (April 1, 2010)
  • ISBN-10: 031603780X

Blurb: Sabina Kane doesn't have the best track record when it comes to family. After all, her own grandmother, leader of the vampire race, wants her dead. So when she arrives in New York to meet her mage relatives, the reunion puts the fun in dysfunctional. Not only is mage culture completely bizarre, but everyone seems to think she's some kind of 'Chosen' who'll unite the dark races. Sabina doesn't care who chose her, she's not into destiny. But the mages aren't Sabina's only problem. In New York's Black Light District, she has run-ins with fighting demons, hostile werewolves and an opportunistic old flame. Sabina thought she'd take a bite out of the Big Apple - but it looks like it wants to bite back.

My Thoughts: I was really sucked into this book, and am very upset that I have to wait until 2011 to find out what is going to happen. Sabina has been one of my favorite characters since I read the first book. And I think that the author has made a very great list of secondary characters.  This was one book that kept me turning the pages dying to find out what happened next...If you have read this series yet I would recomend this series. I give it 5 stars!!

Iron King - Julie Kagawa Review

  • ISBN-10: 0373210086

Blurb: Meghan Chase has a secret destiny - one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school.or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face.and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

My Thoughts: I really didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book. I had read some great reviews for this book but still had my doubts that I would enjoy it. Man was I pleasantly surprised when I got drawn into from the first few pages. I had to fight with myself to put this book down to sleep and other various things around the house. I really don't even know how to describe this book other than amazing! When I finished it I was left feeling a little empty, like I needed to read the next book right now because I had to find out what happens next. I became very attached to the characters and found myself holding my breath at points hoping that everything would work out for them. I hope that many others will decide to take a chance and pick up this book, and I hope even more that they enjoy it as much as I did. If I could give this book a 5 1/2 star rating I would, but I will have to give it a solid 5 stars!

The Reckoning - Kelley Armstrong Review

The Reckoning: They Gave Chloe Saunders Her Power. Now They Want to Take it Away. Big Mistake... (Darkest Powers)The Reckoning (Darkest Powers Book 3) by Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: HarperCollins; 1 edition (April 6, 2010)
ISBN-10: 0061662836
400 Pages

Blurb: The nail-biting climax to Kelley Armstrong's bestselling YA series. Chloe Saunders is fifteen and would love to be normal. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. First of all, she happens to be a genetically engineered necromancer who can raise the dead without even trying. She and her equally gifted (or should that be 'cursed'?) friends are on the run from the evil corporation who created them. To top it all, Chloe is struggling with her feelings for Simon, a sweet-tempered sorcerer, and his brother Derek, a not so sweet-tempered werewolf. And she has a horrible feeling she's leaning towards the werewolf. Definitely not normal...

My Thoughts:  This was yet another book that I was anxious to get my hands on.  I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this series and was looking forward to seeing how this ended. I have to say I was very happy with the ending of this book. Everything felt resolved but at the same time left me feeling like I could keep reading about these characters if the author decided to continue this series past this book.  Once the action started it really didn't stop which kept me reading. I found it hard to put this book down. This was one of those books that just wouldn't let me go to sleep until it was finished with me. This crew of characters was so easy to connect with and I found me self thinking I remember what it was like to be there age and dealing with certain issues like boys and those "mean girl friends" from high school. This book is labeled as a young adult book but I would recommend it to people of all ages! I rated this book at 5 stars!

Deadtown - Nancy Holzner Review

DeadtownDeadtown by Nancy Holzner
Publisher: Ace; Original edition (December 29, 2009)
336 Pages
ISBN-10: 0441018130

Blurb: They call it Deadtown: the city's quarantined section for its inhuman and undead residents. Most humans stay far from its borders -- but Victory Vaughn, Boston's only professional demon slayer, isn't exactly human...

Vicky's demanding job keeping the city safe from all manner of monsters is one reason her relationship with workaholic lawyer (and werewolf) Alexander Kane is in constant limbo. Throw in a foolhardy zombie apprentice, a mysterious demon-plagued client, and a suspicious research facility that's taken an unwelcome interest in her family, and Vicky's love life has as much of a pulse as Deadtown's citizens.

But now Vicky's got bigger things to worry about. The Hellion who murdered her father ten years ago has somehow broken through Boston's magical protections. The Hellion is a ruthless force of destruction with a personal grudge against Vicky, and she's the only one who can stop the demon before it destroys the city and everyone in it.

My Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I put it on my to be read pile not really knowing what to expect from it, and really this was a case of judging a book by its cover cause that is what drew me in.  I think this cover is awesome!! But once I started reading it I was glad that I bumped it up my pile.  It was a new and refreshing look at some paranormal species that we see a lot of and a great view of zombies.  There isn't much that I didn't like about this book I thought it had good pacing and enough action to keep everything moving and interesting.  The little drops of romance that we got was enough to make me hope for more in future books. I gave this book a 4 star rating on Shelfari but outside of Shelfari I give it a 4 1/2 stars.

Succubus Shadows - Richelle Mead Review

Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid, Book 5)Succubus Shadows  Georgina Kincaid Book 5) by Richelle Mead
 Published by  Kensington Books
 304 Pages
 ISBN: 0758232004

Blurb: Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality, seduction, shape-shifting into any human form she desires, walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals--all child's play to a succubus like her.

Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend's wedding is a different story. Georgina isn't sure which is worse--that Seth is marrying another woman, or that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions. Georgina's roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with sexual tension. Then there's Simone, the new succubus in town, who's intent on corrupting Seth.

But the real danger lies in the mysterious force that's visiting her thoughts, trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she'll be too weak to resist. And when that happens, she'll discover who she can trust, who she can't--and that Hell is far from the worst place to spend eternity. . .

My Thoughts: There is really not enough I can say about this book or this series for that matter. I stumbled across this series when I first found the urban fantasy genre and it has been one of my favorites since the begining. There is something about Gerorgina that I just adore, I'm not sure what exactly it is that attracts me to her but I find her to be a very "real" character. I find myself laughing with her, greiveing with her, and being 10 shades of confused with her.   I really enjoyed the plot in this book and have so many theories running through my head as to what is up with Georgies contract and how Seth fits into all of it.  I hate to say it but I am still on the fence as far as my feelings for Seth go, at first I was a huge Seth fan but as this series has continued I have had less than glowing emotions for him.  I also have a growing soft spot for Roman I think we got to see a side of him that was only touched on in the first book.  This was one of those books that got in the way of my every day life I just couldn't seem to bring myself to put it down, and I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series. All in all I would give this book 5 stars and suggest this seires to anyone interested in the Urban Fantasy genre.

Getting Started

Gonna give this ago and see if I can get the hang of it *crosses fingers* Wish me luck guys =o)
